What are OCs and NDCs?
OCs, or Original Characters, are exactly that- characters you have created, rather than characters that have appeared in a Disney film or show. These are not named characters from a show who you've expanded upon.
For example, Veronica, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice film, is a named character who plays a fairly significant role in the plot. She has very little screen time, however, and not much is known about her. If you want to take her, you would obviously be expanding on her personality, history, etc. But as she actually appears in the film, she is considered a canon character, not an OC.
On the other hand, Anna Stutler, twin sister to Dave Stutler (from the same film) does not exist in the film. She is an OC.
An NDC, on the other hand, is a Non-Disney Character. Basically, this is any character from a show or film not created by Disney. Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon, Thumbelina from Thumbelina, and the characters from Yu-Gi-Oh are all examples of NDCs, even though Thumbelina and Yu-Gi-Oh are sometimes shown on Disney channels.
Can I use OCs and NDCs?
In short: Yes. But on a very limited basis only. NDCs and OCs are subject to some additional rules, because this is a Disney site.
As a way of keeping our focus primarily Disney, only 2 of your total 6 possible characters may be OCs or NDCs (or a combination thereof). Additionally, you must have 20 RP posts with each of two Disney characters before you can apply for an OC or NDC. For example, I would have to have twenty RP posts for Puck and another twenty for Horvath before I could apply for, say, Megamind.
OC Rules:
An OC must have a connection to a canon character. You can't make a character for use in, say, Star Wars, and try to use them here. Sorry.
Anyone who attempts to apply for a Star Trek character under the Madam Mim logic of 'you didn't say any Star Trek!' will be met with an amused laugh and a firm 'no'.
Your OC may be connected to a canon character in just about any way you like. It could be a canon character's servant, or unseen relative. Just some form of connection. They must play by the rules of that particular film, and they may NOT be just a rough copy of a canon character.
For example, Anna Stutler. She's Dave Stutler's twin sister and Maxim Horvath's apprentice, so there's not one but two connection to canon there. She's a powerful sorceress in her own right, but she is not just a female version of Dave. Her interests, talents, motivations, and character are wildly different from her twin.
You may apply for an OC after having written 20 RP posts for two other Disney characters. Use the OC Application to do so.
When filling out the OC, you will note two sections in particular. One is the aforementioned connection to a canon character- please list who that character is and describe the connection.
The second is for your ideas on how your OC will fit into the plot, and why. Simply creating a character to act as a romantic partner for another will not be accepted- your OC has to contribute to the overall plot of FiHP in some way.
Once your application has been reviewed, you will be asked to enter your OC into a probation thread with one of the admins, to test how well the character works in play. This is just a short trial thread so we can more fully evaluate your creation. The thread will not be considered part of the board canon unless you request it to be. If the admins decide that your character is well-formed and well-played, it will then be accepted.
NDC Rules
The rules for NDCs are similar. You must have two active Disney characters before applying for an NDC, and you will be asked how you plan to work the character into the story of the board. How does the idea of FOTOS affect the story you want to bring in?
For example, someone wanting to play Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon could say that the Red Death (the really big monster dragon) was a Friend or a client of the Friends, collecting the souls of the animals the other dragons brought to it for the FOTOS.
Non-Disney movies will be reviewed and accepted for use here on a case-by-case basis only.
When you apply for an NDC, you will also be asked to run a probation thread with that character and one of the admins, just like for an OC.
