~~~About My Character~~~
What is your character's history? Are they on the side of the Friends, the High Council, neutral, or are they unaware of the conflict? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
Little is known about Alice's family, but it assumed that Alice was born second in her family after her sister. Her parents loved them both very dearly, but had little time to do things with them. From a early age, it was clear to Alice that she wasn't like other children - for one, she had some kind of aura about her, though she could never work out what it was, and the most strange things began to happen around her.
Alice's sister was her teacher, and supervisor. She often took Alice on outings, and tried to teach her all different subjects on which Alice would need, and showed her how be a proper young lady. Although Alice listened sometimes, her mind was elsewhere most of the time. She went on adventures with her cat, Dinah, and imagined many a time what her own world would be like.
One day, while Alice was out with her older sister, she came across a White Rabbit...with a waist coat and a watch! Being the adventurous tyke she was, Alice followed him, with Dinah close behind. She continued following him until she got to a rabbit hole, a large one at that. It was then she stopped - it hadn't just been that the rabbit had run away - it was like it had almost wanted her to follow - and something from inside the hole was calling to her, though she didn't know what. Crawling into the rabbit hole, Alice didn't notice the large hole at the end of it, until it was too late. With a 'Goodbye!' to Dinah, she fell head first down the hole. She came out at a place called Wonderland, a marvelous yet peculiar place, where everything was not as it seemed.
At first, Alice was baffled on what to do. She spotted the White Rabbit, and followed him. She found a door, but had to shrink in order to get through. When she did, she had to grow again as she had forgotten the key for the door. Increasing in size, Alice started to cry, unable to stop until she shrunk again and managed to float through the door. She then encountered Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, who told her of The Walrus and The Carpenter. Curious to find the White Rabbit still, she sneaked away from the pair, and ended up meeting the Cheshire Cat, who told her of the Mad Hatter and March Hare. Not knowing which to go to, she found them both having a tea party, celebrating their ‘Unbirthdays.’ Joining in, Alice at first found this amusing, but got annoyed when they kept interrupting her from having tea and then talking all sorts of nonsense to her. She saw the White Rabbit meet them, and ran after him after the Mad Hatter and March Hare destroyed his watch. Fed up, Alice tried to think and find a way out of Wonderland. She ended up getting more lost than ever, until the Cheshire Cat came, telling her of the Queen of Wonderland, and all ways here were her way.
He opened up a passage in a tree for Alice to walk through, which landed her in a maze, leading to the castle. Finding a few cards soldiers of the Queen, she helped them to paint some white roses, which had been planted by mistake, red. But the Queen of Hearts soon found out, and had them all be-headed except Alice, whom she ordered to play croquet with her. The Queen and the cards cheated at this game, making the girl look ridiculous. The Cheshire randomly appeared sitting on the Queen, and ended up making her fall over, and leaving Alice to take the blame. Alice went on trial for her ‘crimes’, until she fought back, eating both of the mushrooms she’d found earlier, first growing in size, and shouting at The Queen, saying how everything was nonsense and she was tyrant, before shrinking again, and forced to try and out-run the Queen and her soldiers. Running back through the maze, all the things she encountered so far started to cross-over with each other, resulting in the girl trying to escape through the door she’d originally come through, to find that everything was dream, and her older sister was the one who woke her up.
She found herself back on the river-bank with Dinah, and her older sister was confused at the nonsense that Alice suddenly started talking of. She told Alice it was time for tea, and the three headed back home, with Alice quite confused, but none worse for wear.
..........
For the next decade or so, Alice heard nothing about Wonderland again, and it seemed like it had never happened at all. Even Alice herself appeared to have forgotten the strange land and its creatures. She could not shake off the dreams she kept having, however, and sometimes it felt like they were nightmares - it was then an echo of a feeling appeared, a feeling she might've had a lifetime ago, but now it was just out of her grasp. Many a time, Alice would speak with her father about the dreams and feelings, and when she asked, he himself declared she was indeed mad, but added, "all the best people are."
Alice kept to that advice from that moment on, never caring that she was incredibly different from all of the other wealthy girls her age, and when she became a teenager, she was not fussed for the usual things girls her age should be, like romance and appearances. Whilst she did care for those things deep down, she found that other things still drew her attention away from them. One being the death of her father when she had barely turned nineteen. The death of him greatly depressed Alice, as she missed him seemingly much more so than her other family members, and felt she had lost the one person who meant more to her than anything.
Her mood didn't get any better in the following months, but when asked by her mother, Alice reluctantly agreed to go to a party at Lord Ascot's castle, hoping to at least take her mind off things for a while. When she arrived, it was revealed to Alice that she was be proposed to, and it was implied she was expected to accept it, whatever she felt about it. She was less than thrilled about the prospect of marrying someone she didn't love.
When the time came, she was suddenly distracted by a familiar looking white rabbit, heading off in a certain direction. Giving the excuse she needed time to think about the proposal, Alice hurried off into the maze of foliage surrounding the castle to follow the rabbit. She came to a hole next to a fallen tree stump, and peering in, accidental fell down the hole.
She was in Wonderland, or Underland as it was called again, but this time, having no memory of her previous visits. She was watched by the creatures of Underland, who argued between themselves that she was 'the wrong Alice.' Running into the creatures, Alice was confused by their attempts to try and make her remember Underland, insisting that they had the wrong girl and this must be all a dream. The inhabitants talk of a girl called Alice, who is foretold will slay the Red Queen's Jabberwocky on the Frabjous Day and restore the White Queen to power - the Red Queen had come into power with the help of other forces known as the 'Friends', and the Jabberwocky was the key to saving Underland. They talk with the Caterpiller, Absolem, who decides that she is "not hardly Alice."
The group is ambushed, and Alice flees away from the Bandersnatch and a group of playing-card soldiers, led by the Knave of Hearts, who later informs The Red Queen the Alice is back in Underland. Fearing her reign, she orders for the girl to be found immediately. Meanwhile, the wandering Alice encounters the Cheshire Cat, who takes her to the Mad Hatter and March Hare. She and the Hatter go towards the White Queen's castle, and Hatter talks of the reign of terror that has befallen Underland since the Friends' corruption, and now the Red Queen's too, and decides the Alice is not the same as she once had been. The pair are ambushed, and Hatter saves Alice by being seized himself.
Alice is found by Bayard the bloodhound, who wishes to take her to the White Queen, but Alice insists upon helping the Hatter, so they go to the Red Queen's castle. She is welcomed to the castle as the Red Queen doesn't recognise the now fully-grown Alice. Through the Red Queen being distracted by the Hatter, she learns of the Vorpal sword, the only weapon which can kill the Jabberwocky, is locked away in a case inside the Bandersnatch's den. She manages to retrieve the sword and befriend the beast. However, the Knave finds her with the sword and attempts to arrest her. She manages to escape and brings the sword to The White Queen, whilst the Hatter is saved from execution by the Cheshire Cat. The former calls for rebellion against the Red Queen.
Alice is unsure about the expectations for her to champion the White Queen, despite numerous encouragements from the latter. Absolem manages reminds to remind her of her past visit to Underland (which she mistakenly called "Wonderland" at the time) years earlier, and helps give her the courage to fight the Jabberwocky. The Frabjous day arrives, and both sides line up on a chess-like battlefield, sending forth Alice and the Jabberwocky, their champions. The White Queen offers her sister a chance for peace but is refused. Encouraging herself with words of her father, Alice manages to kill the Jabberwocky.
Victorious, the White Queen banishes the Knave and her sister to the outlands, and gives Alice a vial of the Jabberwocky's blood, which will take her home. Despite the Hatter suggesting she stay in Underland, she decides to drink the blood and return home, with the promise that she will one day, return, and if need be, help out against the Friends once again.
Drinking the blood, Alice finds herself back home, and begins to deal with the issues she faced beforehand, declining the offer of marriage, and making sure her sister's husband can be trusted, and over-coming some of her grief towards her father, though it is clear, she will never fully recover. She then becomes an apprentice for Lord Ascot, with the idea of beginning oceanic trade routes in China.
[Feel free to ask me to change anything. I previously had both Alice's histories written out, so I pieced them together and re-wrote parts of it, adding in information where need be, but some may still be incorrect, please tell me what if there is.]
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses? What are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
Alice is very peculiar for such a girl of her time. She has been raised with the values her family taught her, which means she is a very polite and thoughtful person - well, most of the time. In some ways she appears quite wise for her age, especially as a child, forever coming out with half-logical statements that, when one thinks about them, are very logical indeed. Although she sometimes goes too far out of her way to be so considerate, Alice is never one to want to seem grown-up or boring, fearing that she'd lose everything that made her, well, her if she had to.
She has an excellent and vivid imagination, and can dream up all sorts of faraway places and when she needs to, schemes as such. She is also a heavy dreamer - especially her younger years, she would love to sit and imagine up her own world, as she's always believed that the real world has never been enough for her - in some ways, her 'own world' could be one of the few ways Alice can be free from her growing up in a strict Victorian society. She often gives herself to what she believes is "very good advice", but then rarely follows it. Alice isn't one to listen to other people - if they talk about things she doesn't want to know of, and usually will believe her own opinion before anyone else, even if theirs is more logical.
Though she firmly believes she can take care of herself and act grown up, curiosity is a huge weakness to Alice, even in her later years. She's tried to stop herself in the past, but nothing has ever worked to keep that feeling at bay - if something happens that sparks her interest, she will be determined to follow it through to the end.
Even as a grown-up, Alice still fears the dark, mostly when it means she'll end up getting lost too, never forgetting her first time in Wonderland all those years ago.
Will you be playing by this description, or are you going to take a different spin on things, and how so?
Alice was one of a rare group of children born with a strong connection to chaotic magic, allowing her to sense Wonderland and be drawn towards it. When she first showed up as a child, the Hatter and the other residents of Wonderland were tasked to protect her from the Queen of Hearts' machinations. Ten years later, Alice returned to a changed Wonderland, corrupted by the Friends. (Its vastly different appearance was due to the chaotic nature of the place, allowing the Friends to warp it in their image more easily) The Hatter, who has become the leader of the rebels, served as Alice's guide and helped her along the way until she became the warrior needed to defeat the Jabberwock. After Alice's victory, the White Queen took control of the land and restored it, and the Hatter and his allies became its first line of defense against the Friends. Alice, meanwhile, returned home until the next time the High Council needed her help.
I suppose I can play her like this - though, admittedly, I'm much more familiar with/prefer the 1951 animated version than the new one. This sounds interesting enough to play out, however, I'm going to request that the overall way she can sense Wonderland and her connection with it could somehow make her change from the animated!Alice to the live action!Alice at random times and/or when the plot calls for it.
~~~Sample~~~
Give us a small sample of how you will play your character. Give us at least three paragraphs.
Alice stood in her bedroom, looking into her mirror. It seemed like such a normal action that one does, but what she was about to do next seemed impossible or...impassable. Leaning forward, she put out her hands towards the mirror. Instead of her hands pressing against the glass, the surface rippled, almost like water, and the girl's hands went straight through!
She did think putting her feet in first would've been more sensible, but it really didn't matter which way she entered through her looking-glass, she still ended up tumbling down headfirst into the darkness. She quickly checked on Dinah, who was sleeping peacefully on her bed, before allowing her whole body to fall through the mirror. Alice quickly fell head-first down into a pitch-black tunnel, but knew her blue should fan out, like a parachute, any moment now.
...
After a few more moments of falling, Alice began to panic when it seemed she wasn't slowing down. Glancing down, her eyes widened as she saw her dress hadn't leveled itself out. Suddenly, a burst of golden light erupting from the tunnel walls made her scream. What was happening? The light flowed around her and appeared to get more intense by the second. The speed of her falling coupled with the bright light forced Alice to cover her eyes with her arms.
Now was a time for her to wish she'd never found Wonderland. Why, the trip alone was going to get her killed!
Alice dared to peek through her arms, and wished she hadn't. Hard ground was coming towards her, fast. The poor girl shielded herself as best she could, as her body slammed hard into the ground, sending her flying and rolling.
When the motions finally stopped, the girl moved her arms away, her attire looking quite tattered. To her disbelief, Alice saw she wasn't injured in the least physically!
'Typical Wonderland,' she irritably thought. She'd come to visit the place, and now she was more than ready to leave!
But why had her journey been so different this time? As Alice sat up, her mouth fell open in shock as she took her first glimpse at the world around her. This wasn't the Wonderland she remembered, it looked very unfamiliar. The place seemed dark, and there was something that Alice felt had changed. That was a looking-glass she fell down, yes? Picking herself up, the girl wondered where on earth she was, all the while tidying her appearance.
It had to be a different part of Wonderland, surely.
~~~Bonding~~~
Why this character? What draws you to them? What makes you want to play them? I just love the overall character of Alice, and have played her quite a number of times before now. I'm eager to get her into this plot and mix around her history to fit with it, playing her but also adding something new to the character, too! :3
Who else do you play here? None.
What is your name? Mel.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Eh, not much to say, really. xD I've been on numerous RP sites before, such as WoD, and role-playing is something I enjoy doing very, very much.
