~~~About My Character~~~
What is your character's history? Are they on the side of the Friends, the High Council, neutral, or are they unaware of the conflict? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
The Spring Sprite is almost as old as the earth itself, having been created by the gods to counteract the destruction of the forces of evil. She was given powerful healing and earth magic that she used to cause the changing of the seasons from the cold death of winter into the warm rebirth of spring. This magic was something that she reveled in, finding immense joy in creating life out of destruction. Her power was put to a great test of strength when the Titans attacked Mount Olympus, capturing the gods under Hades' command. Under the guidance of Zeus, the Spring Sprite began to help Greece return to its former glory, restoring Thebes first of all, as that city had suffered the most damage.
With Greece restored, the Sprite returned to her usual work of bringing about spring. As time passed, Zeus sent her to wherever she was needed, throughout all of the different worlds. Finally, she was sent to the Northwest of North America, where she made her home in a small forested area. There, she met the spirit of a brave warrior, who had taken the form of his totem, which had been an Elk buck. The Sprite was charmed by this brave animal and soon made him her personal animal companion. They spent several decades together in peace, the Elk coming to wake her at the end of every winter and sending her into her hibernation each fall.
But one year, something changed. The Elk came to wake her the same as he always did, and the spreading of spring seemed to be going normally. And then the Sprite found a mountain where her magic could not make anything grow in the soil. Confused by this, she tried to find the source of this death. She made her way up to the top of the mountain, and found herself on the edge of a volcano. In the center was a creature that the Sprite had never seen before. Naturally curious, she went to investigate. It looked to be a great bird of some sort, and so she reached out to touch it.
She came to regret that action, as the moment her healing hand touched the hard lava, the creature came to life, revealing itself to be the Firebird. To the Sprite's horror, she found herself in the midst of the Firebird's new destruction. All around her, she watched as her beautiful forest began to burn to ash. She tried to escape the Firebird, but not even the highest tree could save her from the great burning bird's power.
Luckily, she managed to survive, though there was a short time in which she wished that such were not the case. The Elk woke her, much as he did every spring, but the sight of so much death and destruction was almost too much for the Sprite. She had never been more willing to just give up and let her life end. But the Elk would not allow that to happen, and silently urged her to come with him. They would find somewhere that had survived the burning; somewhere safe where the Sprite could recover from the wounds she had suffered. Still, she was miserable and almost ready to give in. As the Elk began to carry her off, a few tears fell from her eyes and landed on the parched ground. Where each tear fell, a new plant began to grow. Seeing this filled the Sprite with hope, and she began to once more use her healing magic, not only to restore herself, but her home.
With her forest now restored to its former beauty, the Sprite, who had never yet attempted such a feat, was summoned before Zeus. He had been waiting for her to reach her full potential for creation and healing, and now he had a task for her. There were several worlds and kingdoms that needed her help. Soon she was traveling between worlds with her Elk companion, healing places that had been ravaged by the dark magic of the Friends on the Other Side. She was sent to the plains of Africa after Scar was defeated to help the Pride Rock lions return their home to what it once was, and now she is on Wall-E's earth of the future, helping to clean up all the pollution that the humans had simply allowed to build up.
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses? What are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
The Sprite is very childlike and curious. Filled with wonderment at even the simplest of things, she is always eager to learn more. Sadly, her curiosity can often be the cause of something that she would have rather avoided, such as in the case of the Firebird's awakening. But her heart is always in the right place, and she will do everything that she can to fix any mistakes that she makes. She is also remarkably shy and quiet, preferring to remain silent whenever possible and only speaking when absolutely necessary.
As she is primarily a being of healing magic, she hates to see anything suffer. A simple touch from her will heal most hurts, though not wounds of the spirit. She wishes that she could mend all wrongs, but even she has her limits. Still, even though she wishes that Zeus had given her more power, she is loyal to the king of the gods and would do anything he asked her to. This blind devotion could cause problems were she to ever give her devotion to someone of ill repute, but thankfully she has not yet done so.
She is remarkably innocent, almost to the point of naiveté, and very willing to follow those who are in charge, so long as it means that the greater good is served. She is no warrior, as she hates all things involving violence, but she is a fighter in her own way. This way is to use her powers of healing to combat the forces of darkness, keeping them at bay by giving hope to those who need it most. Sadly, though, she is so idealistic that often she sees good where there is none, and as such has to watch as those who she would have protected are fought off by her fellow servants of the High Council. But she is never so horrified or wounded by this that it crushes her spirit or her faith in Zeus. Rather, it just cements in her mind the fact that all lives need to be saved, even those that seem unlikely of ever being saved.
~~~Sample~~~
Give us a small sample of how you will play your character. Give us at least three paragraphs.
It was horrifying to see so much death and decay. The Sprite almost turned away as she and the Elk came through the portal that led her to the world that Zeus had most recently assigned her to. There were piles of waste so high that they dwarfed what must have once been awe-inspiring sky scrapers, and dust covered everything. There was not a single plant that seemed to have taken root here, and the air was so foul that the Sprite felt ill for a moment. Turning to look at the Elk, the Sprite gave him a pleading look, as though begging that they go home.
But the Elk was silent as always, simply nuzzling against her shoulder and nudging her forward. Zeus had sent them here for a reason, the animal seemed to say, urging her on. They had to do what Zeus asked of them. Sighing heavily and reaching up to rest a steadying hand on the Elk's neck, the Sprite looked forward at the decay that needed her to help it heal. She would do it. For the sake of her gods, if nothing else.
With the soothing presence of the Elk nearby, she rose into the air and began to move towards the nearest pile of waste. This would take a long time, she realized with a sigh. She would have to do this by parts, it seemed. Tapping her chin thoughtfully, she nodded and then flitted down to hug the Elk around his neck. She silently seemed to tell him that they could indeed do this, no matter how impossible it seemed to be. They would and could fix this world, and they would do it without anything terrible happening.
~~~Bonding~~~
Why this character? What draws you to them? What makes you want to play them?
My favorite segment of Fantasia 2000 has always been either the Firebird Suite or the Steadfast Tin Soldier. I love the gorgeous animation and the pure innocence of the Spring Sprite. She is so full of life—pun intended—and so beautifully animated, that I couldn't help but fall in love with her.
Who else do you play here?
