~~~About My Character~~~
What is your character's history? Are they on the side of the Friends, the High Council, neutral, or are they unaware of the conflict? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
If The Horned King ever had a name, it is known only to him. For as long as he has strode the land, he has only been known by the title's that the mortals he chose to interact with gave him.
While Arawn still lived, he was The Horned Huntsman, greatest of all Arawn's Uruk-Hai. It was in part due to his skill, ruthlessness, and sheer force of will that Arawn was able to extract a blood pact from warring chieftains that solidified their loyalty for the rest of their days.
When Arawn was sacrificed to power The Black Cauldron, The Horned Huntsman rose to fill the void that had been created. In this way, he became The Horned King, and his story truly began.
When the Horned King first took the throne, he became enamored with the black art of Necromancy and proved to be extremely talented in the field. However, he eventually hit his limit, unable to fulfill his goal of becoming a lich. This was the first time the Friends had contacted him. He accepted their bargain and became a monster beyond compare.
He fulfilled his contract to the Friends within the first decade, destroying several rival warlords and solidifying his status as Arawn's successor. After several victorious campaigns, he began to hear tales about a cauldron that contained untold power. If he could simply get his hands on that cauldron he could become a Friend himself, perhaps even strong enough to rival Cherabog himself! With this goal in mind, The Horned King began his search for The Black Cauldron.
The time between then and the tale for which he is most (in)famous is a time that is wrapped in mystery and superstition, for he disappears from public view during this period. What is known is that during this time he was responsible for training a great many Dark Magic users, including the likes of Jafar, Ursula, and even Maleficent for a time. It is debatable whether or not he started some of them down the roads of evil. In particular, whether or not he was the catalyst for the creation of the Mistress of All Evil is a matter of fierce debate.
Many centuries later, he would find the cauldron, but he would be sacrificed to it before completing his objective.
Ever since Chernabog returned him to life, The Horned King has maintained a co-leadership of the Inner Circle alongside Maleficent, a fact he resents more than most can fathom.
The changes from Uruk-Hai to Necromancer, from Necromancer to lich, and from lich to Cauldron Born have taken a severe toll on The Horned Kings sanity. Though he was never exactly a moral being to begin with, he now couples that amorality with a callous disregard for life, commonly killing people whose deaths were worth nothing simply because they were to weak to be of use.
As mentioned below, he controls a great amount of heartless due to his high position within the Inner Circle. His heartless also tend to be more powerful than their contemporaries. However, he prefers to use the undead as servants due to his continuous infatuation with necromancy.
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses? What are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
The Horned King is a being that thrives on the pain and suffering of the sentient. Man, beast, dead, or alive, if it can feel pain then he would gladly torture it till the end of time simply to hear its screams.
Though quick to anger and even quicker to punish, it is surprisingly difficult to get him to truly hate a person. This is because he believes that everything else is beneath him. To The Horned King, to loathe someone in their entirety requires you to mark them as your equal; otherwise it would simply be anger or contempt. As The Horned King thinks of himself as the pinnacle of power (trumped only by Chernabog), the list of people he hates is extremely small. That list is three people: Maleficent, Taran, and (shockingly) Gurgi.
As a lich, he has a certain fondness for the deceased, often treating the undead under his thrall with a fondness not seen anywhere else. This is likely because, as his thralls, they are essentially extensions of himself. His pride is matched only by Maleficent, and she is one of the three beings that he truly despises.
If there is one thing besides pure Malevolence that The Horned King excels at, it is Evil Magic. Though he prefers necromancy, The Horned King is a Master at any Magic that may be morally unsound. This, combined with his not inconsiderable life span, has allowed him to teach a great many who would later become great masters in their own right.
The Horned Kings greatest weaknesses are his pride (which causes him to severely underestimate most of his opponents) and his rather volatile disposition. Because he can be angered so easily, it is simplicity itself to break his concentration. This makes him far less effective, but take care. While he will miss far more if you anger him, if even one of his spells hit you it can be disastrous.
The thing that makes The Horned King one of the most deadly of The High Councils foes, however, is a direct result of how Chernabog chose to resurrect him. The Horned Kings body was torn apart and "eaten" by The Black Cauldron, an artifact of incredible evil. Chernabog decided to return The Horned King to the living world through a reversal of this process. This turned The Horned King into a partial Cauldron Born, and as such, he is effectively immortal. Should The Horn King ever be killed, his soul would return to The Black Cauldron and he would be reborn. However, this had two serious drawbacks. The first is that The Black Cauldron became The Horned Kings only link to the mortal realm, so if it was ever destroyed The Horned King would burn into nothingness. The second drawback, and the far more serious one to The Horned King, is that as a Cauldron Born, he is unable to actually use The Black Cauldron. This destroyed the one ambition that The Horned King had ever had since becoming king. The Horned King has taken the pain of losing one of his life's goals and turned it against his enemies.
It should be noted that because he views himself as being far above all the pitiful little mortals that run around causing trouble, it is very rare for him to actually attack someone himself, preferring to send soldiers or patsies to do it for him. However, if a person does enough to piss him off or are on his Hate List, then he will hunt them until the end of time if he has too.
Tvtropes Entry:
The Horned King: The mystic land of Prydain was formerly ruled by the Dark Lord Arawn who was slain by the High Council by being thrown into the Black Cauldron. Now Arawn was formerly one of Chernabog's most powerful Arch-Demons. But when he was sealed awy in the Black Cauldron, his trecherous Uruk-Hai huntsman, The Horned King, seized the throne of Annuvin and made a deal with Chernabog to try and control the rest of Prydain. Since he was an Uruk-Hai, a more humanoid cousin to Maleficent's orc soldiers, the Friends were willing to aid him every step of the way. In fact, his evil was so great that he practically became an Arch-Demon himself, as he was the one who trained Maleficent, Madam Mim, Queen Grimhilde, Jafar, and a whole slew of sorcerors in the art of dark magic, hoping it would bring more clients to Chernabog. Basically, The Horned King was the disney version of Emperor Palpatine. The Horned King had been searching for the black cauldron so that his evil powers would increase ten-fold and that he would become a full-fledged Ultima Friend to rival Chernabog. The Cauldron Born had formerly been his uruk-hai soldiers for the Friends that had been slain in battle. Fortunately, the Heroic Sacrifice of Gurgi stopped the cauldron for good, disintegrating the Horned King in a stream of magic, ending his reign of terror. The Horned King's ambition troubled Chernabog, but after the King's death, Chernabog was willing to give the Horned King co-leadership over the Inner Circle as The Chessmaster, giving him overall command over his former apprentices. Out of all of the members of the Inner Circle, he has command over a rather large amount of Heartless... His very prescence causes great fear and alarm to almost all individuals in the worlds for it is said that the Horned King is in fact The Antichrist, destined to open the door to darkness and release Chernabog in the final battle.
The Creeper, his little toadie, was in fact one of Maleficent's rare IMP soldiers, who got bought out by the Horned King while trying to look for future henchmen.
The Horned King's human soldiers were all saps who got very little of their numbers soul collected by the Cauldron-Born.
His black, purple, and teal blue version of his costume seen in Mickey's Land of Illusion was made by Chernabog as a symbol of his newly heightened power as a Dark Master.
I will be playing him like this while adding the fact that he is a necromancer. This doesn't really change anything, since he already looks and acts the part.
~~~Sample~~~
Give us a small sample of how you will play your character. Give us at least three paragraphs.
Pain. It was all he had known for so long. Ever since he had been taken by The Black Cauldron, pain had been his only companion. He no longer knew how long ago that had been, nor did he care. But he did remember the two beings responsible for this. Indeed, focusing on those two caused him to feel such burning rage that it allowed him to remember who he was.
And suddenly, the pain was gone. Just like that, it disappeared. He couldn't believe it. He had fully expected to find a way out after he realized he could still think, but he had never dreamed he'd find it this quickly. In fact, he was relatively sure he hadn't actually done anything yet...
Then he heard the Voice. He couldn't see the speaker, couldn't even open his eyes, but he knew who it was all the same. "So King," the loud rumbling voice of Chernabog began "it appears that things have gone wrong for you. My condolences." He opened his mouth to respond, to say anything, but not even a shadow of a sound escaped his lips. "It is rather hard, I find," Chernabog continued, "to speak when you have no body. Indeed, I find it rather hard to do much of anything in such a condition." What? But how could he feel if he didn't have a body? "The Black Cauldron appears to have been a bit too much for you to handle. Or perhaps, you simply made a mistake? Regardless, it has led you to the sorry state you are now in. A pity, really; you had such potential." The Horned King, mad with desperation now as he realized Chernabog was going to leave him to his fate, sent the Dark King a deal. There was a long, agonizing silence. And then Chernabog began to laugh. It was too evil to properly convey in writing and a thousand living souls became trapped in eternal nightmares. "Your offer is accepted, Horned King." And with a flash, The Horned King could see again.
He reached forward. He was in some sort of liquid. He could feel it resisting his every move. But he was The Horned King, and he would not be beaten by such a pitiful foe. Eventually, he felt his hand break through the surface and clutch onto a hard metal of some kind. With a great effort, he heaved himself up into the world of mortals once more.
He looked down at his hands. They were mere bone now, but he could see rotting skin begin to form. He looked, at last at the object that he was currently hanging out of. He saw none other than The Black Cauldron. He became very still as he processed that. He had been resurrected from The Cauldron, which meant that...but no, it couldn't be. That wasn't how The Cauldron worked! And yet...there was no other option, no alternative he could cling to. He had become a Cauldron Born, which meant...that The Cauldrons power was forever lost to him. All those years, those decades, wasted. All because of a pig-boy and his thrice-damned cretin!
He heard voices coming closer, but they didn't matter. All that did was that his life's work had been destroyed by two creatures that were less than nothing. He couldn't let this stand. He had to make them pay a hundred-no, a thousand times for this!
He wouldn't notice the green fumes that were emanating from his body, nor the village that had rotted around him, for some time. When he did, however, he collected himself and strode into the darkness. After all, he had a kingdom to rebuild.
Now then, where was Creeper?
